PRIVACY POLICY
Privacy policy
This policy describes what TAKT (Kyohei Kikkawa, trading as TAKT) actually handles on taktvideo.com, on the Promo pages we send out, at the license portal, in the operator-only admin screen, and in TAKT for Mac and TAKT for iPhone / iPad. We describe the implementation as it is — no wider, no narrower.
1. Who we are
Kyohei Kikkawa, trading as TAKT. Contact: support@taktvideo.com. Our postal address is disclosed without delay by email on request; please use the same address to ask for it.
2. What we do not collect
Your videos are never uploaded to our servers. Playback, frame stepping, cut detection and PDF creation all happen on your device. Your marks, comments and work data (.takt) are stored only on your device (on Mac, ~/Library/Application Support/TAKT/); there is no cloud storage or sync. There are no accounts or passwords. The apps send no usage telemetry. There are no third-party analytics or advertising tags on any page — no Google Analytics or similar script. We do, however, keep our own server-side counts for the Promo pages (see 4). TAKT is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect children’s data.
3. Cookies and device storage
We do not claim to be cookie-free. Two cookies exist, and both are strictly necessary. There are no advertising or analytics cookies.
| Name | Where | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
fs_portal | License portal | A short-lived signed token so your license key can be removed from the URL. It contains a license id only — never the key or your email address. | 30 minutes |
takt_admin | Operator-only admin screen (/admin) | Confirms the operator; nobody else has access. | 2 hours (re-entry required 12 hours after issue) |
The home page may also use the browser’s sessionStorage to restore your scroll position; it is cleared when you close the browser and is never sent to us. If we ever add a cookie, we will write it here first.
4. What we do handle
| Data | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| Website delivery logs (IP address, time, requested URL, browser), kept by Cloudflare | Delivery and fault diagnosis | Kept under Cloudflare’s own retention. We do not copy these logs to anywhere of our own |
| Promo page counts: per campaign, per day, how many times the page was opened and how many downloads were started — integers only | To know whether the message we sent was read | There is no automatic deletion. These are integers per campaign and day, with nothing that identifies a person. They go when we delete the campaign record |
| The role the recipient chooses for themselves on a Promo page (optional) | To preset the app for that kind of work | There is no automatic deletion. It is kept together with the record of how many licences each campaign gave out, which is what stops us giving out more than we offered. Revoking a licence marks it as revoked; the record stays. We act on deletion requests as described in 11 |
| Attribution of a later paid purchase to a campaign: license id, campaign id, amount, currency | To know which message led to a purchase | There is no automatic deletion. It is used to count which message led to a purchase. We act on deletion requests as described in 11 |
| Abuse-prevention logs: the connecting IP address truncated to a /24 (IPv6: /48) bucket and then hashed with a key, plus the outcome of the request | Rate limiting and audit. Raw IP addresses are not stored | 90 days (licence server audit log). For the Promo pages, 30 days; the claim receipt, 1 day. All three are deleted automatically by a daily job |
| Purchase notification: order reference, amount, currency and the buyer’s email address (stored encrypted, with a keyed hash for lookup) | Issuing and resending license keys, applying refunds | There is no automatic deletion. We need it to reissue and resend a licence key, to check that one order does not issue two licences, and to hold the record of a refund or chargeback. After a refund the row remains, with its status changed to refunded. We act on deletion requests as described in 11 |
| License key (hashed), per-Mac installation id (hashed), app version, a fixed device label (“Mac”) | Verifying keys, one license on one Mac at a time, moving to another Mac | There is no automatic deletion. Deactivating a Mac marks that activation as deactivated; the record stays (we use it to re-activate the same machine and to limit how often a licence moves). We act on deletion requests as described in 11 |
| Support messages and the address they came from | Replying, and checking whether a fault recurs | There is no automatic deletion. It stays in the mailbox after we have replied. We delete it when you ask us to |
| Business outreach: a company’s business contact address, the contact person’s name and role, a record of what we sent, and an opt-out list | Introducing TAKT to people who work in video production | There is no automatic deletion. We keep the record of what we sent until you ask us to delete it. The opt-out request itself is never deleted, so that we do not write to you again |
The Promo counts are per campaign. No cookie, IP address or browser information is used to produce them, so these records cannot tell whether one person opened a page five times or five people opened it once.
5. Purposes and legal bases
Issuing and verifying licenses is necessary to perform your purchase contract. Abuse-prevention logs, Promo counts and business-to-business outreach rest on our legitimate interests (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). Where the law requires it, we act on a legal obligation. Under Japan’s APPI, the “Purpose” column above is our published purpose of use.
6. The apps
Mac: no telemetry. It contacts only the license server and the update server, sending what is needed to verify a key and to compare versions. It never sends your computer name, user name, file names or video content.
iPhone / iPad: the developer sends nothing off the device. No account, no analytics. Purchases are handled by Apple, and we do not receive information about individual buyers from Apple.
7. Email
License key emails are sent from license@taktvideo.com through Resend. Support messages (support@taktvideo.com) and business correspondence are handled in Google business email.
8. Processors, recipients and countries
| Processor | Role | Country |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Website delivery, servers, database | United States (the serving location varies) |
| Resend | Sending email | United States |
| Business email | United States |
Payment is handled by an external payment provider; we never receive your card details. The provider is not yet decided; its name and country will be stated here once it is. We do not sell or share your information. We disclose it otherwise only when required by law. For processing abroad we check each country’s framework before choosing a processor and set out the handling in the contract. For the processors listed above, transfers of data covered by the GDPR rest on the mechanism set out in each processor’s data processing agreement. For the payment provider, we will confirm the mechanism and state it here once the provider is decided. Until then no customer data reaches a payment provider, because no payment is taken.
9. Security
The principle is not to hold things. Video and marks stay on your device. Values we do keep on the server — license keys, installation ids, email addresses, IP addresses — are stored as keyed hashes or encrypted, with the key held apart from the database. The admin screen is used by one person with a passphrase, and the passphrase itself is not stored. All traffic is HTTPS. One person handles this data, and the same person answers requests to see or delete it.
10. Your rights
You can review your license, deactivate a Mac and resend your key at the license portal. For access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or to ask for our postal address, write to support@taktvideo.com. We answer without undue delay once we can confirm who you are.
Objecting to business outreach (direct marketing): reply to our message and say you do not want to hear from us — no reason needed — and we stop. Your address goes on an opt-out list so that no other campaign writes to you either. We obtain such addresses from business contact details the company itself publishes.
11. Complaints
Please write to support@taktvideo.com first. You may also complain to your supervisory authority — the Personal Information Protection Commission in Japan, the ICO in the UK, the CNIL in France, and so on.
12. Changes
We update this policy as the product and the law change, and publish the new version on this page. The Japanese text prevails; this English text is a reference translation.
